A. HEARTLAND REVIEWS WANTS TO REVIEW YOUR
BOOKS. See Bob Spear's site and get
full details at
http://www.heartlandreviews.com/Index.html
B. WHY YOU SHOULD WRITE A UNIQUE SALES LETTER FOR EACH PRODUCT.
People are buying products, especially books, on the net in exploding
numbers, but most Author/Speaker Web sites miss out on this opportunity.
They put up an attractive, creative Web site, but without the all-important
first class, must-buy-now sales letter, sales will be minimal.
In your sales letter include these items:
1. Benefit-driven headline at the top and throughout
2. List of top five benefits in bullets
3. Background of audience's problem and resistances
4. Powerful copywriting throughout
5. Success story to dispel concerns or doubts
6. More benefits and a few features
7. Three-six testimonials from the "rich and famous"
8. 100% money-back guarantee
9. Expertise story behind the product
10. What your product will not do.
--Judy Cullins: author, publisher, book coach, www.bookcoaching.com/products.shtml
C. "UNTRUST" COMPANIES IN INTERNET EXPLORER.
Have you ever gone to a Web site to have a dialog box pop up asking if
you want to "always trust ABC Company?" The site is attempting
to download some software, like an ActiveX control. This dialog box pops
up when the site has something called a "digital certificate".
The purpose of the certificate is to identify the site and ensures they
registered their identity with a trusted third party. You might have said
"yes" to "always trust" stuff from a particular site
and now you want to "untrust" them. If so, here's how:
1. Open Internet Explorer and click the
Tools menu. Click the Internet Options command.
2. In the Internet Options dialog box, click
on the Content tab.
3. On the Content tab, click on the Publishers
button.
4. In the Certificates dialog box, you should
be taken to the Trusted Publishers tab. Click on the Certificate you want
to remove and click the Remove button. Confirm that you want to remove
it and then click Close.
5. Click OK in the Internet Options dialog
box.
Now you won't automatically trust that site
and you'll be provided with a dialog box each time that site wants to
install stuff on your machine.

D. DEVELOPING AN E-BOOK... DON'T FORGET PALM! Todd Bermont,
author and publisher of "10 Insider Secrets to Job Hunting Success"
reports that over 55% of his e-book sales have been to one site, Palm
Digital Media, http://www.peanutpress.com/book.cgi/0971356939
Palm has clearly been the #1 format followed by Adobe Acrobat
at about 35%. Microsoft Reader is only accounts for about 10%. While Microsoft
has been pushing its reader hard, clearly Palm and Adobe are the top two
formats of choice.
Currently, e-books account for almost 25% of the volume in
Bermont's book sales... so while many discount the effectiveness of e-books,
Todd Bermont has been very pleased with the additional revenue stream.
Todd Bermont can be reached at http://www.bermont.com
or 888-894-6400.

F. USE THE CHARACTER MAP TO ACCESS ALL LANGUAGE CHARACTERS.
Have you ever wanted to be able to access all the characters available
for the font you're using? Things like (c) and (r) and ¢ -- where do they
"live" and how do you access those characters? They're not on
the keyboard, but one way you can get to them is to use the Character
Map application. Try this:
1.
Click Start and then click the Run command. In
the Open text box, type charmap.
2.
The Character Map dialog box opens. Here's where
you'll see all the characters for the different fonts you have on your
system. Scroll through characters and click on one you'd like to put into
a document. Suppose you want to insert the "cent" sign into
a document. Just click on it and then click the Select button.
3.
You will see the "cent" sign in the Characters
to copy text box. Click the Copy button. This copies the character to
the Windows clipboard.
4.
Return to your word processor or email message
and click the Paste button in the toolbar. The symbol now appears in your
document or message. Pretty neat, eh?
5.
Here's another trick. Go back to the Character
Map application. If you have the "cent" sign selected, you'll
see in the bottom right corner something that says Keystroke: Alt+0162.
You can use this information to insert characters without using the Character
Map.
6.
Turn on the Num Lock. Go to your word processor
document or email. Now hold down the Alt key and press the number sequence:
0 - 1 - 6 - 2 on the number pad. You don't have
to hold them down, just press them; you do need to hold down the Alt key
while you hit each of the numbers. Let go of the Alt key after typing
in all of the numbers. The character will appear in your document.
7.
If you find yourself using the Character
Map a lot, you might want to make a shortcut to it on your desktop or
on the QuickLaunch toolbar

Here is something funny we have found
on books, writing, publishing, authors and/or words. If you have a laugh
to share, please send it to DanPoynter@ParaPublishing.com
A. BAD SUSPENSE NOVEL METAPHORS AND SIMILES
FROM KENSTON HIGH SCHOOL. See
http://www.kenston.k12.oh.us/khs/english/metaphors_n_similes.htm
B. BEGIN WITH A BOX. THE PLURAL IS
BOXES.
But the plural of ox became oxen not oxes.
One fowl is a goose, but two are called geese,
yet the plural of moose would never be meese.
You may find a lone mouse or a nest full of mice,
yet the plural of house is houses, not hice.
If the plural of man is always called men,
why shouldn't the plural of pan be called pen?
If I spoke of my foot and show you my feet
and I give you a boot, would a pair be called beet?
If one is a tooth and a whole set are teeth,
why shouldn't the plural of booth be called beeth?
Then one may be that, and three would be those,
yet hat in the plural would never be hose
and the plural of cat is cats, not cose.
We speak of a brother and also of brethren,
but though we say mother, we never say methren.
Then the masculine pronouns are he, his and him,
but imagine the feminine: she, shis and shim!
And screwy pronunciations can be playfully difficult
....
For example.....if you have a rough cough, climbing
can be tough when going through the bough of a tree!
